Hi, my name is Emma Paff, I am the owner, designer, baker, decorator and Pastry Chef at ‘The Cake lady’.
I have been baking and decorating professionally for over 12 years and hold a Certificate 4 in Patisserie, however my cake journey started a lot earlier as a child.
Some of my fondest memories as a child, was my sister and I going to Nan’s house on the holidays, she would sit us at the kitchen table and teach us how to make sugar flowers… I didn’t remember it being ‘that’ hard…..so when sadly after my Nan passed I inherited all of her cake decorating books and equipment, I thought I would have a go and ‘teach’ myself how to decorate cakes.
I pretty quickly realized it wasn’t as easy as it looks…….obviously my memory as a kid was clouded by the fact the main focus for us was that we got to eat the flowers when we were finished…….
After trying to ‘teach’ myself without much success, I went and did a short course on the basics of cake decorating……. after that I was hooked……. I was making cakes for everyone, family, friends, then friends of friends. This was the very start of ‘The Cake Lady’.
I had always loved baking and decorating so in 2015 when I had the opportunity to study patisserie I jumped at the chance. I spent 12 months immersed in a world of Chocolate, Pastry, Cakes and Sugar Art. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! I was in my element, and at the end of my studies I was awarded the Tafe Queensland Patisserie student of the year for 2016.
I have also been lucky enough to have my skills recognized by the Baking Association of Australia with the award ‘Champion Cake/Pastry of the show’ 2016.
I also take any opportunity I can to upskill and I’ve been extremely lucky to be able to travel and to train in New York, Melbourne and right here in Brisbane.
Emma has been featured in several print and electronic media campaigns and has also been a keynote speaker at industry events.
